FINRA Bars Broker Shane Wilhelm For Failing To Respond To Request For Information

Shane Wilhelm (Shane Collins Wilhelm CRD# 4803933) is a former registered broker and investment advisor last employed with Fortune Financial Services, Inc. (CRD# 42150) of Moneta, VA. His previous employers include Truist Investment Services, Inc. (CRD#:17499), BB&T Securities, LLC (CRD# 142785), and Scott & Stringfellow, LLC (CRD# 6255) all of Roanoke, VA. He has been in the industry since 2004.
FINRA recently barred Wilhelm following an investigation in which he failed to respond to the agency’s request for information. He was barred indefinitely on 9/5/2023. Wilhelm was also discharged twice in less than two months.

  • On 9/1/2022, MGO ONE SEVEN discharged Wilhelm for “Allegations raised by clients at Mr. Wilhelm’s previous firm were not addressed to our satisfaction by Mr. Wilhelm.” No additional information is provided.
  • On 10/6/2022, Fortune Financial discharged Wilhelm, alleging “Wilhelm failed to provide a response and documents to Fortune Financial Services regarding the allegations made against him.” No additional information is provided.

Wilhelm also has three customer disputes in his CRD. The first, filed on 2/2/2022, alleges that Wilhelm not only misrepresented a client’s investments, but represented the client’s assets as more than was in the client’s account at the time. The client requested damages of $80,000, and the claim was settled for $400,000.

The second customer dispute was filed on 7/29/2021 with similar allegations to the first one. In this case, the claim was settled for $35,000.

The third claim was filed on 5/15/2018, alleging, “The attorney for the beneficiaries of the deceased clients accuses Mr. Wilhelm of inflating the actual value of the elder client’s estate and of their potential inheritance.” Although the client requested damages of $340,092.00. The claim was ultimately denied, with Wilhelm responding that he did not knowingly inflate the value of the client’s estate or the beneficiaries’ potential inheritance.
