San Francisco, California Broker Stephen D. Grant Under Investigation After FINRA Bar

Silver Law Group is investigating former San Francisco, California-based broker Stephen D. Grant (CRD# 2447319) after FINRA permanently barred him.

According to Grant’s FINRA BrokerCheck report, FINRA permanently barred Grant from acting as a broker or otherwise associating with firms that sell securities to the public after Grant failed to respond to a FINRA inquiry in July 2016.

Grant, who was most recently employed by Security Research and Associates, Inc. (CRD# 8200), was suspended by FINRA in 2013 after he failed to comply with an arbitration award or settlement or to satisfactorily respond to a FINRA request to provide information concerning the status of compliance.

In 2013, a court ordered a civil judgment against Grant in the amount of almost $170,000.  The complaint, according to the BrokerCheck report, alleges Grant received a signing bonus from Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network, LLC (CRD# 11025) under the condition that Grant would stay seven years with the firm.  Grant stayed for two months from January to March 2011.

Another civil judgment was entered against Grant in June 2014 in the amount of $460,000.

Grant lists outside businesses in his detailed CRD report.  Grant was the managing member of Sansome Capital Partners, LLC, an investment management company, trading his own money in stocks, bonds and real estate.  Grant also was a managing member of Omerta Capital Partners, LLC, a private equity fund that invested in pre-IPO companies; Zen Entertainment Group, LLC, a venture in which Grant opened Asian fusion-style restaurants; and New Tuscany Partners, LLC, a real estate investment management company.

Grant has been employed by five different firms in the last 12 years.  From 2004 to 2011, Grant was employed by Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner & Smith Incorporated (CRD# 7691).  Grant then had his two-month stint with Wells Fargo.  Grant was then briefly employed by Internet Securities (CRD# 102800) from March 2011 to September 2011.  Legend Merchant Group, Inc. (CRD# 5155) employed Grant from August 2011 to March 2012 (FINRA expelled the firm in August 2012).  Security Research then employed Grant until FINRA barred him.

At all the brokerage firms, Grant operated either out of San Francisco or Oakland, California.
