{"id":3033,"date":"2015-03-17T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2015-03-17T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/silverlaw.lawblogger.net\/blog\/state-of-florida-charges-four-computer-support-companies-in-ruthless-fraud-scheme\/"},"modified":"2015-03-17T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2015-03-17T04:00:00","slug":"state-of-florida-charges-four-computer-support-companies-in-ruthless-fraud-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.silverlaw.com\/blog\/state-of-florida-charges-four-computer-support-companies-in-ruthless-fraud-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"State of Florida Charges Four Computer Support Companies in Ruthless Fraud Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n<p>The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Florida has filed a series of complaints alleging that four South Florida companies \u2014 (1) ASAP Tech Help LLP, (2) E-Racer Tech LLC, (3) Protech Support LLC d\/b\/a Rapid Tech Support, and (4) Techfix USA LLC d\/b\/a Smart Support and First Class Tech Support \u2014 engaged in a ruthless telemarketing scheme through which each company allegedly marketed deceptive computer software and tech support services to consumers that were little more than false promises aimed at bilking consumers of millions of dollars.<\/p>\n<p>According to the lawsuits, each company used software \u2014 such as pop-up ads warning of viruses or other malware \u2014 designed to trick consumers into thinking that there were problems with their home and office computers.\u00a0 The software directed consumers to call the companies, which then subjected those consumers to high-pressure deceptive sales pitches for tech support products and services to fix their non-existent computer problems.\u00a0 By preying upon consumers\u2019 lack of technical knowledge, the companies were able to convince consumers that their computers were fraught with viruses and a multitude of computer errors for which those consumers purportedly needed security software and tech support services that typically cost between $99 and $600.\u00a0 In all, the companies were able convince numerous consumers that the non-existent problems actually did exist, and each company made huge profits in the process.<\/p>\n<p>In November 2014, Florida\u2019s Attorney General and the Federal Trade Commission obtained temporary restraining orders against two other South Florida-based tech companies (Inbound Call Experts LLC d\/b\/a Advanced Tech Support and Advanced Tech Supportco LLC) with similar deceptive schemes marketing and selling computer support services and software.\u00a0 The Attorney General now believes that some of the newly-charged scammers are former employees of the companies named in the November lawsuits.<\/p>\n<div class=\"read_more_link\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.silverlaw.com\/blog\/state-of-florida-charges-four-computer-support-companies-in-ruthless-fraud-scheme\/\"  title=\"Continue Reading State of Florida Charges Four Computer Support Companies in Ruthless Fraud Scheme\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading \u203a<\/a><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Florida has filed a series of complaints alleging that four South Florida companies \u2014 (1) ASAP Tech Help LLP, (2) E-Racer Tech LLC, (3) Protech Support LLC d\/b\/a Rapid Tech Support, and (4) Techfix USA LLC d\/b\/a Smart Support and First Class Tech Support \u2014 [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[608],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3033","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-tech-support-fraud"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>State of Florida Charges Four Computer Support Companies in Ruthless Fraud Scheme &#8212;
